The Event ID 3310 is very generic and has many different causes reasons for occurring. this can make it extremerly difficult to troubleshoot however having spent some time on it I thought I would put together my steps.

Firstly the error looks like this in the EV event log.

Event ID: 3310 There was a problem accessing a network service or resource. The dispenser will re-queue the current item and sleep for 10 minute(s).

Sometimes it can be useful to know what Exchange Server is associated with what user according to Enterprise Vault and the information in the Enterprise Vault Directory Database. So for example is UserA referencing the new Exchange Server that he/she has been moved to?

This can simply be done by running the following view in the Directory Database (At least in Enterprise Vault 8).

General Overview
Outlook Web Access in Exchange 2007 has changed quite significantly and so has Enterrpise Vault.  One of the major changes is the fact that Enterprise Vault can no longer proxy requests through the Exchange Server as was the configuration in Exchange 2003.

Installation Troubleshooting
If you have issues with the actual running of the installation, check and gather the following in case you need to raise a case with Symantec.

1: Check the Application, Enterprise Vault and System Event Log. Save these off in EVT file format.

One of the options with File System Archiving is the ability to create placeholders when an item has been archived. What this effectively is, is a link to the archived item stored in Enterprise Vault. Th purpose of this document is to explain what makes a placeholder, and how it works. This article will only focus on NTFS volumes etc, and other types of file system such as Celerra etc are not applicable to some points.

A Placeholder is made up of three things to be considered fully formed.

- Reparsepoint
- Sparse File
- Offline

It has generally come to my attention that for consultants especially there is a lack of knowledge surrounding Celerra and the fact that from EV7, files can be archived. I have threrefore put together this quick, simple article in regards Celerra components and how EV works with Celerra so terminilogy etc can be understood.

What is it…? - Models, Components, Terminology

- A NAS/SAN Device for File Storage.
Comes with many different options in terms of hardware and software. A bit like Enterprise Vault!
